Christine Lafuente - All the Blooms You Are
Somerville Manning Gallery
Fri, Apr 11 - May 10 Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00-5:00
Christine Lafuente is a still life and landscape oil painter known for her masterful use of color and painterly approach. Her show title, All the Blooms You Are, is a play on the title of the classic jazz standard, “All the Things You Are” – a love song of lyrical beauty composed of metaphorical phrases such as “kiss of springtime” and “the breathless hush of evening.” These are fitting words for an artist like Lafuente who considers her paintings to be poetic responses to visual experience.
After finishing her Bryn Mawr degree, she completed the certificate program from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and earned her MFA at Brooklyn College. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and internationally and has been the subject of 35 solo shows and numerous group shows. Through the course of her career, she has been the recipient of many grants, awards, and artist residencies, including the Philadelphia Sketch Club Medal for Achievement in Visual Arts and two full fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center. Based in Brooklyn, N.Y., Lafuente also teaches painting workshops, paints during summers in Maine, and has painted in residence in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Venice, Italy.
The Somerville Manning Gallery is located at 101 Stone Block Row, Breck’s Mill, 2nd Floor in Greenville, DE. The hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00 to 5:00. Tel: 302-652-0271.
